Performance of a silica-polyethyleneimine adsorbent for post-combustion CO2 capture on a 100 kg scale in a fluidized bed continuous unit

Abstract Polyethyleneimine (PEI)/silica adsorbents have been considered as a promising candidate for post-combustion CO2 capture, but the limited process study has performed on pilot-scale unit. Herein we report 150 h continuous test results using 100 kg sample of silica-PEI fluidized bed The removal efficiency and dynamic sorption capacity were evaluated continuously by changing number variables. For reactor, variables inlet H2O concentrations 0–8.3 vol%, 12.0–21.5 vol%, temperatures 50–70 °C differential pressures 176–370 mmH2O. desorption reactor operated at temperature 129–130 °C, 8.0–13.5 vol%, 14.6–81.2 vol% 430–580 mmH2O used. During operation, efficiencies over 90% achieved with capacities 7.5 wt%. Solid collected during operation analyzed TGA 13C NMR to identity decrease adsorption extent thermo-oxidative side reactions. Slow oxidative degradation occurred because transporting adsorbent was exposure non-humidified air in solid transport system.
